We have two very sweet and over the top cute new additions to the family.
Sophie picked out the name Lupine weeks ago when we told her she could have a rabbit in the new house..... and Jade named the white one Sorrel. The girls in true kid fashion have spent the last week researching all things rabbit. They can tell what they should eat, shouldn't eat, proper bedding, the importance of toenail clipping, potty training, rabbit behavior and so on......
We've never had rabbits as pets.... and while I mostly see them as little poop-makers-for-my-garden next spring, the girls are truly smitten. They are such quiet, sweet little creatures.
Any other bunny lovers out there?
ps ~ i'm donating all shop profits through friday to victims of the tornadoes in oklahoma.....
Ooh, my husband amnd I have been thinking of getting our girls bunnies, but we haven't made the leap yet. Do you have any tips, pointers, books to recommend? What type did you get? They are absolutely beautiful! Good luck!

They're so sweet! Are they a particular kind? I loved having rabbits as a child, and someday (when we don't have a dastardly terrier) I hope to have some again.

I want to get bunnies soooo bad! Both for my son Henry and for the compost, this is really inspiring me, going to call feed store and see if they have any now....thanks for the inspiration. Will yours be kept in a hutch or an outdoor pen?

Well you know all about our bunnies I'm sure. Raelee and Soph had a long conversation about the do's and don't's. Are you housing them together? I have read that even with same sex bunnies that's not such a good idea. They are also crazy sensitive to heat...which has caused a problem for us and getting them out of our garage.

A rabbit hutch is on the list of things daddy-o wants to build soon. Yes, I want their poop for my garden. But really, is their a cuter garden fertilizer out there?? Sorrel and Lupine are divine. Do they live inside?

These bunnies are soooo adorable! I had bunnies once upon a time. I started out with a rabbit my friend gave me. He was an indoor rabbit, potty trained, a bit on the older side. I knew nothing about rabbits, and apparently she didn't know enough either. Less than a year after we inherited Ziggy, he died in my arms.
They have very sensitive digestive systems. The one thing I didn't know is they HAVE to have hay all the time. Lettuce is not good for them, especially in large quantities. It's important that they get plenty of room to run and play. They love to dig burrows so providing them with a big pen and a couple of bales of hay to make tunnels in is one way for them to live. I did that in the barn. The best thing to do if you can predator proof a place outside, is to create an outdoor pen with a rabbit hutch so they can be locked in that at night. They can withstand the New England winters as long as you provide them a place to get out of the wind, plus keeping their water freshened up because it will freeze.
But if you are keeping them indoors and letting them roam in the house, be prepared for a lot of gnawing. Provide them with sticks to chew on. They are like beavers in that their teeth continue to grow so they need to chew on things, which helps to grind their teeth down.
Good luck and enjoy those little loves!

Those are the sweetest pictures ever. My sisters and I always had rabbits growing up, and they were the sweetest pets. Enjoy them!

They are a dwarf mix. They should be under 6 pounds fully grown. And so sweet! We're brand new, so I've got no pointers or tips but I did add a link to the site we've enjoyed the most on last Fridays link love post!

They are inside for now. Once they're full grown we *might* move them into a larger very sturdy outdoor cage. I'm going to play that by ear. We have a very mild climate here, so I know they would do well out of doors. Plus I have seen some really neat rabbit hutches with exposed/open bottoms that you could move around the yard so they could nibble on grass!
