We found a really nice place to adventure just a few minutes from the house.
Hiking in the woods is one of my favorite things to do.... even when the kids grumble or whine about being tired. There is something so good about getting out and pressing on. Feeling your feet hit the earth beneath you as you listen to the forest.
This trail, in the middle of town, was far bigger than I expected and I admit..... my adventuring bug got the better of me. With no snacks or water the little guy was on the verge of falling apart near the end.... but it was nice and cool in the woods and we pressed on. Little bridges and large rocks to climb saved the day. I knew he could do it, and he did.
After a two hour loop we got back to the car. All full of that good kind of feeling that only comes from moving your body.
After guzzling down cool water Luke wipes his arm across his face and looks at me. "Mama, Daddy would love this forest. But next time we need snacks."
Indeed.
Isn't it wonderful? Isn't it wonderful to be able to do that and NOT be attacked by flying blood suckers? We have a lot of places like that within a 30 minute drive from here...complete with boardwalks, waterfalls, 100 foot cliffs, critters and the like. I think we found our new heaven!

Those orchid looking flowers are so interesting! What a lovely place to have so close to home. I really like that we have access to travels here with in walking distance of our house. The French seem to be really into hiking.

I love the little tails on the ends of the purple flower's leaves.

The pink flowers are Lady Slippers. I don't know about in Mass. but in New York they are protected.

They are lady slippers.... the kids knew! My brother in law showed them to the kids while hiking in NY. I'm so glad you have access to good outside there too!

That's what Sophie told me. Eric showed them to her.... or told her about them. She was very excited to find them and reminded Luke not to touch them!

Snacks have saved me many a time this past week! But that does look like a pretty hike.
