Did you ever try to run underwater as a kid?
I remember pushing forward with all my strength. Using every muscle. And yet the water always won. Finally, exhausted, I would give in. I'd let the water win and feel myself sink into it. I'd take a deep breath, filling my lungs with air and then float to the top. Eyes closed. The world quiet with my ears just below the water. Not giving up, mind you. Just joining forces with what was working.
Life is like that. It goes at it's own pace no matter how hard we push (or pull). It seems I am usually hurrying it along or holding onto it with both hands and my feet dug into the earth trying my best to slow it down. I should be patient. Mindful. I know this. But those moments always come after the struggle. When I remember how good it feels to give in and feel weightless. To let go and just be. To take each moment as it comes.
Make this meal. Knit one row on this sock. Love up these people of mine. Let the sun shine on my face. Sing along to good music. Eat. Love. Laugh at myself for getting in over my head with that pile of halloween costume fabric. Savoring each piece of this life like a good cup of coffee. One sweet little moment at a time. Even if it's my second reaction.... that's okay. Better late than never, right?
Have yourself a lovely little evening.

but you are waaaay ahead on the Halloween costumes!!!! You have a pile!!! My grands haven't even decided what they want to be!!! (It's often Oct 30th--midnight still sewing!!!!!) Love the water analogy. How true!

I have that cookbook! I ended up emailing her to ask how I should adjust a recipe if I used real butter and had to let her know I'm allergic to coconut, since she makes a point of how rare an allergy it is. :) And truly, the coconut wasn't an issue until I had to start cutting out other things.
It's often just easier to go with the current, isn't it. I hope it's an easy ride, at least.

funny how we try to push life along a little faster and then around the bend we just want it to slow down. :) remember what pooh said: “Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.”

I have the very same book in my stack right now! And we were just discussing costumes...I have a request for a peacock, an orange spider, and by unanimous agreement, the littlest guy will be a domino (His name is Dominic but his sister has always called him Domino)...exciting plans I tell you. ;) This week I'm sharing a sneak peek at the sweater I am test knitting for Ginny's new pattern, stop by if you have a moment! xo~Mackenzie

I must admit I told them this year that they had to plan early if they wanted something extravagant. My little one especially fell in love with something that will take me some time. My goodness. Do wish me luck :)

I have a good friend that can't do coconut. It gives her hives! So far we're adjusting pretty well. Minus the shopping trip to stock the pantry. (oh boy!)

Life has it's own ebb and flow, and riding the waves is always better than fighting an ocean ;)
