On the eve of the storm we headed out to watch the clouds swirling above us. As the sun set, a beautiful double rainbow stretched out across the sky....

We came inside and rearranged the den to make a giant sleepover of air mattresses. This is the one room in the house away from any trees. Joe I slept but a few winks as every little noise had us checking on this thing or that thing. The power went out for a few hours and we found ourselves moving suitcases, furniture and tucking towels around the front door at 3 a.m. The wind was driving the rain at the front of the house so hard it was seeping in some spots. Afterwards we lay on the air mattress in silence. Listening. At 6 a.m. the power came on and I ran into the kitchen to heat water for some coffee.
The rest of Wednesday s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d by every so slowly as the wind blew and rumbled around us.

We finally found ourselves with the wind letting up and the sun peeking out. We felt so grateful for nothing more than a whole lot of branches and leaves that need to be cleaned up. Our little fruit trees and great big oak trees stayed right where they were.

As the sun began to turn the Louisiana sky pink and grey last night, we found ourselves safe, sound and grateful.
Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers and good wishes.
much love to you~

Thank God! Thank you for the good news. I am sure that must have been one of the longest nights of your life.
No gators in your yard?

Good, I was worried about you guys down there. I'm going to have to do an air mattress party instead of hiding from the trees at my mom's next time. It was a looooong two days.

This took me back to my childhood days growing up on the Gulf of Mexico. When we weren't evacuated we did just this - a family sleep party in the family room. Of course there was a scary element to those days as a child, but I secretly loved it too.
So glad all is well where you are.

My six year old decided we should always sleep all together in the living room :) So I think you are not alone in loving that part!

I'm hoping it's our one & only hurricane too. And yes, the kids loved the mama baked treats and giant sleepover :)

Yeah, so good to know you all are well and the trees held up. Once we had a micro burst over our apartment that brought 100 mile an hour winds. It lasted only 15 minutes but it was enough to shake the glass, knock down a ton of trees and tear roofs off surrounding homes. The devastation in our two block radius was astounding.

There is really nothing like extreme weather to make you realize the true force of nature?! Our trees fared SO much better than many others.... I found myself singing them tunes of gratitude all week! We were lucky. Truly.
