Last year I attempted to pull off a 365 project on flickr. (taking one picture every day)
I only made it one month before I threw in the towel.
During that brief month I connected with a few people in those flickr groups that I have stayed in touch with. One of them is Erin. She is truly a talented and dedicated photographer. She regularly inspires me with her ability to capture every day moments with such beauty. The first photo I saw of hers that took my breath away, was this one. After commenting on that photo we just sort of stayed connected. A friendship grew over pictures shared. Snippets of life, food & humor. Lots of food!
And then Erin went and did something amazing. She became a mama. I watched her belly grow as she and her husband awaited the long wished for little person that would soon join their family. I was over the moon crazy excited for them.
So of course, I wanted to send them something special. I thought of Erin and her love of local food and vintage colors. This sweet chicken fabric stood out on my shelves as if to say "hey, we're it. pick us!" And a quilt was sewn. I imagined a sweet new baby swaddled up in it, and a toddler in the future carrying it to the beach for the day. That Erin, she's a brave one. She sent me her address, even though we've never met. I slipped the quilt into the mail and it arrived just a few days before little M. (You can see her on her quilt looking quite seriously at her mama here.)
And since toothless first smiles and tiny hands and feet are just sweet memories here.... I love swooning over little M's photos as Erin shares this new chapter of her life. Unfolding a few images at a time.
It's amazing isn't it?
To have this connection with someone you've never met. I think you know just what I mean by this.
Simple, beautiful, every day moments. All this, over pieces of life shared.
Just lovely~

Words cannot express how much this blanket means to me - to us, really. M lays on it pretty much every single day. We have it out in her room, and it's where she does her tummy time and reads books and looks at some strange baby in the mirror. :) It's been so great getting to know you, too (and for the record I never doubted for a minute that my address would be safe with you!). And thank you for your kind words about my photography. I hope to get back to shots like the one you linked to....some day!

Lovely! My sister made my first baby a small quilt like that and it got so, so much use. He's ten now and it's still on his bed. :)

I so love this blogging community. It seems like give from heart are sent out all the time to people you've never met.
That is surely going to become a family heirloom!
